Spike Lee Calls New Django Unchained Movie “Disrespectful”

. Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained movie sets a story of love and revenge against the backdrop of slavery. Spike Lee refuses to see the film, he says, because of Tarantino’s disregard for the truth and horror in the story of slavery. In an interview with Vibe, Lee commented,

“I can’t speak on it ’cause I’m not gonna see it … All I’m going to say is  that it’s disrespectful to my ancestors. That’s just me … I’m not speaking on  behalf of anybody else.”

This is not the first time the king of black cinema has taken issue with a Tarantino film. In 1997, he called Tarantino to the floor for his excessive use of the word “nigger” in his Jackie Brown movie. Lee “set the record straight” stating,  “I never said that he cannot use that word — I’ve  used that word in many of my films — but I think something is wrong with him.”
